UZOAMAKA MADUKA
EDITOR IN CHIEF, THE AMERICAN READER
Blessed with statuesque height (5 feet 11) and razor-sharp brains (Princeton grad), Uzoamaka Maduka, 27, goes against the grain: She cofounded literary magazine THE AMERICAN READER in 2012 as publishing rang its death knell. Last fall, countering the industry’s digital exodus, she made the READER–which counts Joyce Carol Oates among its contributors–print-only. “Forums for the bold, uncompromising voices–driven by something other than the desires for Likes–were disappearing,” she says. “Being masochists, we created one.”
